The William Walker Gastropub Winchester UK

William Walker photos. William Walker.

The William Walker is set in a beautiful Victorian corner building that was built around 1860. This recently refurbished City Centre Pub and Restaurant is located beneath the shadows of Winchester Cathedral - an 11th Century Gothic Cathedral that has the longest nave in Europe.

The pub is named after the renowned William Walker - a deep sea diver called on in the early 1900's when huge cracks started to appear in the Cathedral walls. Walker worked underground in 20ft of water for 6 years shoring up the foundations. The pub's swing sign is an actual diver helmet in honour of him.

The Bar

Featuring an eclectic mix of William Walker memorabilia, surroundings exude an historical - yet modern, environment. The focal point is a beautiful brass topped bar surrounded by ornate tiling from which you'll find an extensive range of modern craft beers, real ales, fine wines & refreshing cocktails.

The Food

Head Chef Phil Hedley creates modern and classic dishes that will challenge the best menus of the "Foodie" capital of the South of England. His talented team use seasonal, local produce that is delivered fresh every day. Meats are locally sourced in Hampshire and supplied by award-winning local butcher R.Owton.

A wide range of Chef's delicious speciality dishes are offered alongside traditional pub favourites that include Fish & Chips, Burgers, and Roasts.
